EICR observation codes explained

What are the observation classification codes on an EICR?

Observations are recorded on the electrical installation condition report EICR and categorised as either C1, C2 or C3

A code C1 observation means there is danger present, risk of injury and immediate action is required.

Examples of a C1 observation would be bare live conductors accessible to touch

The meaning of a code C2 observation is that potential danger is present.

An example of a C2 observaton could be an unearthed metal socket outlet, which has the potential to become live under fault conditions.

A code C3 observation means improvement recommended

Usually this is something that is safe but does not comply to latest regulations, plastic consumer units for example would be coded C3 unless there is any sign of damage
